Episode 37 - Living Off Centre with Laura Bridgens
Friday Mar 31, 2023
Friday Mar 31, 2023
In this episode I chat with Laura Bridgens about the experience of discovering her late father was not her biological father. She had been conceived by an anonymous sperm donor and this only came to light after she received a commercial DNA testing kit one Christmas. We talk about the huge impact this unexpected discovery had on her sense of belonging, her place in the world and her identity. Laura was fortunate to have had a positive outcome in her quest to find her biological father, but many others are met with rejection and denial. Laura now chairs the Donor Conceived Register and is in the process of setting up a charity to help support other Donor Conceived people as there is very little formal support available currently.

Episode 36 -Reclaiming my body with a tattoo with Harriet Waley-Cohen
Friday Mar 17, 2023
Friday Mar 17, 2023
In this episode I have a conversation with Harriet Waley-Cohen about her experience of losing a breast to cancer, the impact this had on her body and her relationship to it, and how having her reconstructed breast tattooed on live daytime television ultimately was the catalyst to finding compassion, love and softness within and learning to honour both her body and herself. Harriet shares wisdom about the gifts and unexpected lessons this challenging life situation brought about.
Harriet has been through multiple big life experiences and knows what it takes to make deep rooted changes that stick, and to get through tough times and come out the other side stronger and wiser than ever. As a women’s leadership coach and victim focused trainer Harriet’s mission over the past 19 years has been to make sure women know their true value and can make the impact they want to make in the world, supporting women to change the way they think, act and feel in their relationship with themselves, their bodies and their potential, massively for the better. In this episode I chat with Simon Ferrar about his natural burial ground and nature reserve in Surrey. We cover the beauty of caring for our dead in a way that also cares and protects our environment for generations to come, and Simon shares some beautifully rich stories of the people he has served, and the impact of bringing back ritual, choice and individuality into the way we honour and say goodbye to those we love. He talks about the need to talk to those around us about our wishes, and theirs, for when we have died. For me personally a life affirming episode.
